While it was not plug and play, I did get it to work on macOS It would be nice if Amazon provided the link to drivers for products that it sells under the amazon basics brand, but after about 30 minutes I was able to find the driver and get it working. Hope this helps and it works for you.

Purchased this for use with Nintendo Switch as the official ethernet adapters are expensive and in short supply. It works perfectly for that purpose, just be certain to purchase the USB 3. Once you've connected it and your ethernet cable, you'll need to navigate through your Switch's network settings to select wired connection, but that's all the setup it requires.
Be aware that while perfectly usable, the cable is too short to comfortably extend beyond the gap in the hatch. It's cumbersome to get the hatch to close, and the device will be left jutting out awkwardly. It's inelegant but functional and acceptable for the price and ease of use.
I've a 1Gbps internet connection so that line worried me.. Internal network file transfers are also no different. No setup required, but driver disk provided anyway. There were a few choices but I plumped for this one based on other reviews and I'm glad I did. I plugged it into the Pi and it worked straight away with no need for configuration. If you're interested in how I checked the speed here are some details.
I tested the speed between the Pi and my windows laptop using iperf3. I connected them directly using a Cat 5e Ethernet cable. In fact, if I tried to do the test by having both connected to my broadband router I got a connection denied because of the firewall on the router. To install iperf3 on the Pi type: sudo apt-get install iperf3 For windows search for iperf3 I can't include the url.
This is a zip file that you open and then just run exe file iperf3 uses a client server mode and I used the PI as the server. On the Windows client side you need to know the server's IP address. On the Pi type ifconfig. You will see two Ethernet addresses: eth0 and eth1.
I recently purchased a new Razer Blade 15 Advanced laptop which unfortunately doesn't actually come with a built-in Ethernet port. For day-to-day use I don't actually need an Ethernet port because the wireless performance on the laptop is excellent but the recovery disk for my backup software, Acronis True Image, doesn't seem to support Wireless and in the event of needing to recover from backup I would need an Ethernet adapter.
The adapter arrived well packaged in a cardboard box and also came with a driver CD. The adapter has a short moulded USB 3 Type A plug and lead that connects into a small metal cased box that houses the Ethernet port. The Ethernet port also has the usual orange and green LEDs for link state and connection speed. I can't say that I've ever heard of 'ASIX' as a chipset manufacturer but I've been really impressed with the performance of this one so far. The adapter does not seem to get warm, even after heavy usage.
A lot of the negative reviews for this product seem to be around compatibility or lack of with MacOS so I cannot comment on that, but I've had absolutely 0 issues with this and Windows Some users also said their adapters died unexpectedly after a short amount of time.
If this turns out to be the case for me then I'll certainly update my review. Essentially, these are the steps I did to make it work: 1. After installing, do not reboot right away. There will be an outstanding request to load an extension. You must do this, otherwise, you might destroy your device! Reboot 4. If it's there, check to see if the module is loaded 4th column. Mine was not loaded so I had to load it manually using Terminal: sudo kextload [path to the kext file] 7.
Refresh the Extensions, the module should loaded. Windows Update should see it and automatically download the correct driver. You can also download and install the driver from our website or from the disk that came with your adapter. The only way to accomplish this is to have an internet connection available when you first plug in the USB2-E That will allow Windows Update to download and install the driver.
